Hi guys, I really hope someone here will be able to help. I've had no replys in other forumns. I'm still new to Linux especially IPCop. I have recently bought a Viking PCI ADSL2 (http://www.traverse.com.au/productview. ... uct_id=115) internal ADSL modem as it definitely works with IPCop. The problem is that to configure the modem I need to telnet to the card and pass it my ISP details via the command line interface. Telnet and serial port communication are the only methods of configuration. Is it possible to temporally enable the telnetd service to configure my modem? If not where and how can I install the telnet service (Remember, IPCop machine is not connected to the internet)? Perhaps configuration by serial port is best? If so, what would I need to do from the IPCop end? I have tried connecting the cable and using the putty (serial port connection) client but to no avail. Many thanks for any help anyone can offer me in this regard. Cheers, Andy |

Hi Andy. Is your ISP providing you a fixed IP address or it changes via ISP's DHCP? Also, would that right to assume your Viking get ISP given IP address or does it have a "internal" embedded address? |

Hi SoftGil, Thanks for your reply. I do connect to my ISP using a static IP address. I have managed to telnet to the PCI modem now although I must confess, I don't really understand what is going on. This card did come with some documentation in PDF form so if you would like to see them I can send them to you. Or can I upload them here? Basically I install IPCop as normal (in my case Orange + Red + Blue + Green) except for as per instructions I set the below under "Networking > DNS" to: Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 I also need to change the IP address for the Red interface to: Red Interface: 192.168.1.2 I don't really know how but when I try and telnet from another machine I can connect to the admin Command Line Interface screen. The documentation I have gives me the command I need to configure PPPOA but I'm not quite there yet. To be honest I getting a bit over whelmed by what everything means. I understand the card has a default IP address of 192.168.1.1 (modem). According to the documentation the same card has another IP, 192.168.1.2 (the interface apparently). What are these? Do I need to change them to mirror my IPCop green zone IP addresses? Also, should I set my "wanip" (PCI modem CLI) to my static IP address (ISP) 81.147.xxx.xxx ? Also, from the IPCop side, what should I set my red interface IP address and subnet mask to? Also what is my IPCop DNS and gateway? Your help is much appreciated. Look forward to reading your reply. Regards, Andy |
